POWERTEC LEG SLED REVIEW
User Height – 171 cm (just under 5 foot 8”
User Weight – 80kg ( 176 lbs)
Demo and Pick up
I actually gave the Leg Sled two demos. I urge anyone who is interested in the Powertec or Ironmaster equipment to go and check it out. Only several minutes drive from the Airport. Sam and Matt are always helpful and doesn’t mind you giving the equipment a test run. The guys actually work out on the equipment too, and don’t put any pressure on you to buy. After giving it a test run I popped out a month later and gave it another go before purchasing. The Sled comes in 2 boxes and with some help from the boys we managed to fit it into my Mitsubishi Lancer.
Assembly
The sled is well packed and comes with a few pages of a blown up schematic as instructions. No step by step written but this shouldn’t be a problem for anyone that has assembled items such as Ikea furniture or kids toys. There were no scratches or marks on the pieces. So pulling out my socket set and adjustable spanner I got to work. The sled took me just under 2 hours to assemble and that was with a minor (stupid) mistake that I made and had to backtrack. I did this by myself and took time to check that the pieces were all their. I think I had to only guess a few of the bolts on the frame assembly as the sizes seemed a bit out on the instruction pieces sheet. It is certainly a nice looking piece once assembled.
Use
I have only used the Sled several times thus far but have found it very good. The start lever is adjustable in 3 height positions. The backrest and footplate are both adjustable to suit and you may have to play around with this a bit to find what is best for you. The Nylon bearings are smooth and quiet. I have only had 100kg on the unit but personally work strictly and with higher reps. I find it best placing feet high up on the footplate and concentrate on pushing with the heels. The removable calf block is a nice touch and only takes a few seconds to screw into place. It has two height settings and gives an adequate calf workout. Finally the padding is thick and of a decent quality.
Overview
Overall I am happy with the purchase and should get many years of use out of the sled. The sled is compact which is important in a home gym environment and very sturdy. The calf block is a good bonus for these often neglected lower legs. Any problems which may arise I am not overly worried about as the boys at Sam’s Fitness provide good before and more importantly after sales service.
